MARY LEE LINDSAY MASSEGEE, 88, died in April
of 1999. She was a graduate of Ranger High School
at Ranger, TX & attended business college & seminary.
She married the Rev. Jasper Charles Massegee in 1934.
Mary worked as a nurse’s aide at Ranger Hospital. She
was a housewife and a member of Second Baptist Church
of Ranger. She had one son, J. Charles Massegee Jr.
(RHS-1954) & one daughter, Mary Carolyn Wyatt. Burial
was in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger.
HUSBAND: REVEREND JASPER C. MASSEGEE, SR.,
86, died Feb. 20, 2000, with burial in the Evergreen
Cemetery at Ranger, TX.
Rev. Massegee was born in Matador, TX, on Feb. 17, 1914,
to William Lee & Mary Grace Whitaker Massegee and graduated
from Howard Payne University and Southwestern theological
Seminary. He and Mary Lee Lindsay were married on June 30,
1934. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired as
a lieutenant colonel in 1970, having served as a chaplain for
27 years. He pastored several churches in Texas and retired
from Second Baptist Church after 70 years in ministry. He
was a member of Ranger Lions Club.
Survivors include one son, Jasper "Charles" Massegee Jr. of
Ranger; one daughter, Mary Carolyn Wyatt of Wichita Falls;
two sisters, Grace Cockerham of Fort Worth & Dorothy Francis
of California, MO; one brother, Jonathan Riley Massegee of
Denton; five grandchildren & six great-grandchildren.
