MINNIE ELIZABETH HAYDEN MITCHELL, 93, died on
Feb. 20, 2006 in Abilene, TX, with burial there
in Elmwood Memorial Park. She was born Sept. 3,
1912 in Bridgeport, IL to Alonzo and Christine
Waggoner Hayden. Minnie attended Ranger High
School in the Class of 1928 and Ranger Jr.
College at Ranger, TX. She was a graduate of
Hardin Simmons University.
She married Elzie N. Mitchell Jr. who also died
in 2006 after 69½ years of marriage. They were
known as "Minnie and Mitch" to their friends and
were inseparable.
Minnie taught school in the Abilene area for one
year. She was a member of First Central Presbyterian
Church where she was active in the church and the
women's activities As they had no children, Minnie
was a constant companion on her husband's business
trips for West Texas Utilities. After his retirement,
they enjoyed adventurous extended R.V. trips. She
was very creative and artistic. She designed and
hand made a rose Christmas tree using 500 gold tin
can lids. To friends and family, Christmas had not
arrived until the Christmas tree was in the bay
window glittering with a spotlight. Her brothers
were Wayne Hayden (RHS-1930) and Jack Hayden, both
now deceased.
