ELECTRA M. CARAWAY CRENWELGE, 88,
was a 1929 graduate of Ranger High School at
Ranger, TX and was the daughter of Mary M.
Crawford & William Osborn Caraway. She was
born in McLennan County, TX on Nov. 4, 1911
and died on Jan. 20, 2000, in Fredericksburg,
TX, & is buried in Der Stadt Friedhof (The
City Cemetery) of that community. Her brother
was Floyd Earl Caraway (RHS-1946).
She was married in Eastland to Elgin Otto Crenwelge
in Dec. of 1929. He died in Nov. of 1981. They had
two sons, Wilbur E. Crenwelge, M.D., and Joe Edward
Crenwelge, Lt. Col., USAF (Retired). She had seven
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren at the time
of her death.
During her high school years she must have enjoyed
English and Home Economics as favorite subjects,
because she was an avid reader and an accomplished
seamstress until her eye sight diminished in her
later years.
Following their marriage, the Crenwelges moved to
Fredericksburg, TX, where he was county treasurer
until 1945 when he became an employee of the Texas-
New Mexico Pipe Line Company. At that time she became
Gillespie County treasurer to finish his unexpired
term. While he was employed by the pipe line company
they lived in Jal and Lovington, NM, & Fayetteville,
Ozona and Katy, TX.
Electra was active in school, church and community
affairs & she held several offices with the PTA and
was active in the Woman's Society of the Methodist
Church. She was one of the first Den Mothers for
Cub Scouting when that program was organized in
Fredericksburg. Her husband was a Mason and she
was an active member of the Eastern Star for many
years.
