LEE C. RUSSELL, 88, died on Oct. 1, 2003, at Bowie,
TX, with interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Bowie.
Mr. Russell was a resident of Bowie, TX for 12 years.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1914 in Stroud, OK. He was
a retired oilfield gauger. He married Ella Hamilton,
(RHS-1931) in July of 1933, in Ranger, TX. He was a
member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie where he
was a member of the Gideon Sunday School Class. He was
a former resident of Ranger where he grew up & graduated
from Ranger High School in 1933 and was a graduate of
Ranger Jr. College. He was a member and served as a
deacon and treasurer at the First Baptist Church in
Ranger. He also served as music director for several
years. He served for 25 years as a member of the Board
of Regents at Ranger College. He was active in Boy
Scouts and the Ranger Lions Club. After his retirement
from Occidental Petroleum he worked in real estate and
insurance.
Survivors are his daughter, Peggy Lee (RHS-1953) and her
husband Charles Blanton of Bowie; a son, David M. & his
wife Betty Russell of Burney, TX; four grandchildren,
Kimberly & husband Michael Ferguson of Dallas, Russell
Lee and wife Jamie Blanton of Bowie, Michael and wife
Barbie Russell of Houston and Sherri Lynn and husband
Charles Durning of Abilene, six great-grandchildren;
one brother, James C. and wife Ray Russell of Stroud,
OK, one niece and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ella Mae Russell on
Feb. 28, 1995.
