Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1933 RJC

Opal Carter King OPAL CARTER KING, 96, went home to be with her Savior on Dec. 23, 2010, with burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger. Opal was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Morton Valley, TX, to J.W. and Pamela Gilbreath Carter. Opal was the last living sibling of eleven children born to J.W. and Pamela. She married F.R. “Johny” King on Oct. 7, 1933. She was the owner of King Insurance Agency in Ranger, Texas for a number of years. She and her husband were active members of the First Baptist Church of Ranger and loved their church family. In 1933, when the Ranger Swimming Pool first opened, Opal was crowned Miss Ranger. She served as President of the Ranger Chamber of Commerce from 1982 to 1983. During that time she was able to obtain the train depot from the railroad for Ranger. She was also instrumental in the locating of Love’s Truck Stop in Ranger and for the King Manor Apartments in Ranger. Opal was very active in Ranger community affairs, including serving on many committees and the Ranger College Board of Regents. She was a precious Christian mother, grandmother, great-grand- mother, and great-great-grandmother and was loved dearly by all. She will be missed more than words can express. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband F.R. “Johny” King and 10 brothers and sisters. Survivors include daughter Sherry King Warren (RHS- 1955) and husband Richard Cox of Lake Leon, TX and son Johny Bob King (RHS-1962) of Mineral Wells, TX; grandchildren, Sueann Warren Porter of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, Phillip Warren of Gatesville, TX, Bridgett King Smith and husband Thom of Aledo, TX, Paula King Pate and husband Jody of Early, TX; great-grand- children, Jarrid Porter and wife Rainey of Eastland, TX, Reid Smith and Payton Smith of Aledo, TX; great- great-grandchildren, Hailey and Jakob Porter of Eastland, TX, numerous nieces and nephews, and even more friends, including Sara Neal, her hair stylist of over 40 years. Johny King HUSBAND: F.R. "JOHNY" KING of Ranger died Jan. 21, 1994 with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX. Mr. King was born Jan. 3, 1902 in Santa Anna, TX, to R.O. & Lillie Brown King. He attended school in Santa Anna. He came to Ranger at the age of 17 as a clerk for the T&P Railroad. He issued the tickets to the first two passengers at the Ranger Station. He went to work in 1921 for Lone Star Gas Company were he worked for 44 years. He also had ranching interests. He married Opal Carter (RHS-1933) in October of 1933 in Ranger. Opal had just graduated from Ranger High School in May. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Brownie King (RHS-1922), and two sisters, Olene King Hittson and Mary King Brinkley. He is survived by his wife, Opal King, a son Johny Bob (RHS-1962) and a daughter, Sherry King Warren (RHS-1955); four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
