ARTHUR LOYD SHELTON 88, of Odessa, TX passed away on
Dec. 31, 2004, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger,
TX.
He was born May 25, 1916, in Greenville, TX, the son of Mr.
and Mrs. G.W. Shelton. He married Ella Joyce Norton in Sept.
of 1941, in Ranger. They moved to Odessa from Ranger in 1951.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Joyce in 1993. He
was a member of Central Baptist Church. Before his retirement
in 1983, Mr. Shelton was employed by Ref-Chem for 25 years.
He is survived by a son Don Shelton and wife Rena of Monahans;
a daughter, Kathleen Lackey and husband Mike of Odessa; two
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He went into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during WWII. He
attended school at Olden & Ranger & at the time of joining
the service, he was employed as a truck driver. His family
moved to Olden when he was in high school because his family's
house in Ranger burned and they bought a farm in Olden, but
Arthur continued in Ranger High School and Ranger Junior
College. He graduated from Ranger Jr. College in 1936. He
was known as "Pea Vine" and played a C-Melody saxophone with
the band. His brother Ernest Franklin Shelton was in the RHS
Class of 1926. At one time he owned Shelton's Ice Cream Parlor
but it was operated by Arthur while Ernest ran a milk homogenizing
operation. Their sister, Pearl Shelton had worked at Jiggs
Cafe and died in 1986, while living at Greenville, TX. His
brother Ernest Shelton (RHS-1926) was principal owner of
Shelton Music Company in Odessa.
