SAMMY RUTH MATTHEWS LEHRER was a member of
the Ranger High School Class of 1936 at Ranger,
TX. She was the daughter of Hortense Matthews,
a Ranger nurse who was later governess to the
children of Nan Grey & Frankie Laine.
Sammy Ruth went to "Hollywood" to find fame and
fortune and married a young Naval officer who was
soon on duty on a ship in the South Pacific. That
marriage ended in divorce but Sammy Ruth later
married Fred Lehrer, a successful West Coast
manufacturer of ladies' apparel. They had one
son, Jimmy Lehrer. Sammy Ruth died of a heart
condition in 1964 at the age of 45 in Beverly
Hills, CA, where she was buried. The photo on
the right is of Sammy Ruth Matthews, her husband,
Fred Lehrer, and their son Jimmy Lehrer.
