Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1937

Betty McMillen Hinkson BETTY MCMILLEN HINKSON, 89, passed away on Nov. 16, 2010 at her home in Strawn, TX, with burial in Mount Marion Cemetery. Betty was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Ranger, TX to Minnie & Earl McMillen. She attended school at St. Rita's Catholic Church school, Ranger High School, Tarleton State University when it was still a two-year college and the University of Texas at Austin. She was a devoted fan and a tea sipper during her adult life. After college, she worked as a lab technician at Breckenridge Hospital. Betty married Pat Hinkson on June 3, 1945, in Ranger. They lived in Strawn and raised three sons. Betty was always active in all of their activities and supported them in life. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved her family and was a member and supporter of St. John Catholic Church and the altar society. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat; and sons, Rick and Danny. Survivors: her son, Kirk Hinkson and wife, Jan, of Strawn; grandchildren, Kirk Michael of Whitney, Laura Jean of Houston and Dereck of Strawn; & granddaughters, Benet and husband, Bob Henderson, of Denver, CO, and Holly and husband, Charles Durbin, of Fort Worth. HUSBAND: PAT HINKSON, 79, resident and rancher all of his life in Strawn, TX passed away Sept. 25, 2002, with burial at Mt. Marion Cemetery. Pat was born March 26, 1923, in Weatherford, TX to Robert Dillahunty & Laura Dalton Hinkson, both decendents of pioneer families of Palo Pinto County. Pat was a lifelong resident of Strawn, graduating from high school in 1940 as salutatorian of his class. He then went to Notre Dame & played football for one year. Pat returned to Strawn and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, serving overseas in Burma, India, until 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He married Betty McMillen (RHS-1937) in June of 1944, in Ranger, TX. He joined his father and brother, Bill, ranching as a fourth generation rancher on the family ranch dating back to the 1850s in Palo Pinto County. Pat was a partner with his brother, Bill, for more than 45 years where they raised and sold quality cattle. He was a well-respected and trusted cattleman in the area. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Pat served his community unselfishly throughout his life as a member of the Strawn ISD school board for 35 years. He was active in the Strawn Ex's Homecoming activities for more than 50 years. He was also a founding member of the Palo Pinto Sheriff's Posse. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church all of his life. He was preceded in death by his sons, Danny Hinkson, in 1972; & Rick Hinkson, in 1998. Pat loved watching Greyhound football and watching his grandchildren play school sports. Survivors at the time of his death are: wife of 58 years, Betty McMillen Hinkson of Strawn; son, Kirk and wife, Jan Hinkson and grand-children, Kirk Michael, Laura and Derek, all of Strawn; grandchildren, Benet and husband, Bob Henderson of Denver, CO, Holly & husband, Charles Durbin of Fort Worth; brother, Bill (died in 2008) & wife, Jacqueline Hinkson, of Strawn; four great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. Note: Jacqueline Hinkson died on Aug. 31, 2023.
