HENRY LEROY BASKIN "H.L.", JR., 71, died on
April 21, l994 with burial in Kermit Cemetery. H.L.
& his identical twin brother M.L. Baskin (RHS-1939)
were born in Gorman TX on Nov 16, 1922 to Henry Baskin
& Myrtle Clement Baskin and grew up in Ranger, TX,
graduating from Ranger High School in 1939 at the
of 16.
In Nov 1927, two days after the twins fifth birthday,
they & their mother were hit by an eastbound passenger
train in their Ford sedan at the Prairie Crossing in
Ranger. H.L. was seriously injured & unconscious for
several hours and in the hospital for several days.
M.L. had an ugly cut on his forehead. Myrtle was only
slightly injured.
H.L. & M.L. were both attending the University of Texas
but withdrew and joined the U.S. Navy when World War II
began. They were both telegraph operators on different
ships. H.L. married Frances Gibson from Wink in 1952.
They had 2 daughters, Lou and Peg Baskin. H.L. & Frances
taught school in Kermit for many years. Lou & Peg also
taught school in Kermit for many years. The twins had an
older sister, Vashti Baskin Yonker (RHS-1930).
WIFE: FRANCES HAYNES BASKIN, 81, of Kermit,
TX passed away May 4, 2009 in Odessa with burial in
Kermit Cemetery.
She was born in Pecos, TX, on Dec. 25, 1927. She
married H.L. Baskin (RHS-1939) at Wink, TX in
Dec. of 1952.
She was preceded in death by husband, H.L. Baskin;
father, A.B. Gibson, Sr.; stepfather, L.M. Anderson;
mother, Audie B. Anderson; & brother, Arthur Bryan
Gibson.
Those left behind to cherish her love and memory include
her two daughters, Lou Burns of Kermit, Peggy Parson and
husband Terry of Kermit; sisters, Ruth James and husband
Don of Kingsland, TX, Winn Stovall of Midland and Mona
Deutsch of Houston, TX. Four grandchildren, Monica
Bowerman and husband Stephen of Midland, Haynes Parson
of Midland, Hayley Parson of Kermit, Harlan Parson and
fiancee Jessica Swann of Odessa. Four great-grandchildren,
Dylan and Jack Bowerman of Midland, Skyler and Preston
Parson of Midland and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frances was Presbyterian and she taught school in Kermit
for 29 years. Her grandchildren meant the world to her.
Reading was her passion and she loved giving books to
her great-grandsons.
