DEWEY COX, 56, died Dec. 24, 1980. His parents
were Jesse & Dewey Cox, Sr. and he was born Jan. 4,
1924. He attended Ranger High School in the Class of
1941 at Ranger, TX. He was employed a number of years
by L.R. Pearson in his law offices. Dewey received his
law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. In
addition to his law practice, he was Registrar and
taught Business Administration at Ranger Jr. College.
He married Frances Wortham from Sweetwater in 1956.
They had one child who only lived a few days. His
step-children were Lee and Carl Ausburne. He had
two brothers, Charles M. Cox (RHS-1945) & Richard
Cox (RHS-1942), and two sisters, Betty Cox Dillinder
(RHS-1951), and Delores Cox Cheshire (RHS-1953) of
San Antonio. Frances Cox resides in Ranger.
WIFE: FRANCES WORTHAM COX, 77, of Ranger,
TX died May 2, 2004 in Abilene, TX, with burial at
Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX.
Frances was born on Dec. 22, 1927 in Rotan to Lucinda
Elizabeth Loader & Parker Wortham. She was a graduate of
Sweetwater High School. She married Dewey Cox, Jr. in
August of 1956 at Lampasas, TX and he preceded her in
death. Frances worked as a lab tech and radiologist for
Dr. Kuykendall and later at West Texas Clinic for Dr. W. P.
Watkins. When she retired she helped her husband in his
law firm. She was instrumental in getting little league
baseball organized and started in Ranger. She was also
very active in many community organizations including Meals
on Wheels, March of Dimes and helping the local people with
transport to doctor's appointments and hospital visits. She
was a Baptist.
Survivors at the time of her death are her sons, Lee Ausburne,
Class of 1965 of Mesquite and Paul Ausburne (RHS-1972) of
Ranger; brother Glenn Wortham; two grandchildren, Josh and
Lenny Ausburne; nieces and nephews, Joanne Hatton, Bill
Ausburne, Gwen Woods, Beth and Greg Wortham and Billy Wayne
Wortham.
