Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1943

MARY ALLEN LANIER PRUITT was in the Ranger High School Class of 1943 at Ranger, TX. She was the daughter of O.G. & Dora Elizabeth Lanier. Her brother was O.G. Lanier Jr. (RHS-1948). She was married to Walter Pruitt and they were living in Lubbock at the time of her death in 1998. Their son, Allen Pruitt, lives in Abilene. HUSBAND: WALTER PRUITT, age 78, of Abilene, died August 4, 2005 at Hendrick Medical Center after an extended illness, with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, TX. Walter was born June 11, 1927 in Hillsboro, TX to parents Byron & Annie Belle Pruitt. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and then attended the University of Texas where he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He received his CPA certification in 1956. Mr. Pruitt was a financial officer and CPA for land, cattle and energy companies in Midland, Amarillo, and Phoenix before retiring in Lubbock and then moving to Abilene in 1999. He was in the U.S. Navy and a veteran of WWII. While residing in Midland, Mr. Pruitt was a charter member and deacon of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. He also served as a deacon of the Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. Mr. Pruitt was currently a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Annie Belle Pruitt & his wife of 48 years, Mary Allen Pruitt (RHS-1943). At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Donice Pruitt of Abilene, one son, Allen Pruitt and his wife Celeste of Midland; one daughter, Celeste Thompson and husband Mark of Lubbock, one sister, Barbara Link and husband Al of Pueblo, CO; three grandchildren, Melani and Morgan Pruitt and Claire Thompson. MOTHER: DORA ELIZABETH LANIER, 100, died at Midland, TX on April 11, 2000, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.G. Lanier in 1969 and by her daughter, Mary Allen Pruett (RHS-1943) in 1998. Survivors are her son, O.G. Lanier, Jr., and his wife, Dean of Voss, Texas; sisters, Rena Bray of Fort Worth and Faye McCullough of Carnegie, OK; grandchildren, Celeste Thompson of Lubbock, Joel Lanier of Seminole, Jon Lanier of Midland and Allen Pruitt of Abilene; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
