Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1943

Elsie Hummel Bergfeld ELSIE ELLEN HUMMEL BERGFELD, 78, of Conroe, TX passed away on Sept. 15, 2005, with burial at Garden Park Cemetery. Mrs. Bergfeld was born on May 31, 1926 in Ranger, TX. She was the daughter of Iris Lowe Hummel (RHS-1924). She attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1943, also Tarleton State University and later graduated from the Chicago Conservatory of Music in Chicago, IL. After graduation, she taught music for several years. She and her husband, Bill, moved to Conroe in 1957, where she taught Kindergarten for 20 years at Anderson Elementary. Elsie helped Bill create and run a successful business, Conroe Feeders Supply, Inc., which has been operating since their arrival in Conroe in 1957. Mrs. Bergfeld was also active in many organizations: the Montgomery County Fair Association, Lifetime Member, Montgomery County Fair Queen Committee, Montgomery Cty, Trail Riders Association, Montgomery County Scholarship Trail Ride Committee, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo - Lifetime Member, Women's Box Seat Committee, and the International Committee. In January this year, Mrs. Bergfeld was honored as a diplomat for the International Committee. At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband of 57 years, William A. Bergfeld, Jr. of Conroe; sons, William A. Bergfeld III and wife Lynn Simpson and Chuck Bergfeld and wife Debbi, all of Conroe; brother, Jack Hummel (RHS-1951) and wife Carol of Denver, CO; grand- children, Lauren Bergfeld, William A. Bergfeld IV, Bo Bergfeld, Chase Bergfeld, Boone Bergfeld, and Branson Bergfeld. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends also survive. Elsie and Bill enjoyed deer hunting on their ranch, quarter horse racing (last count was about 15 horses), fishing, etc. and attending athletic events their numerous grand- children entered. She and her family were "die hard" Texas Aggie fans.
