OPAL DEE EATON ELROD, 86, passed away on
Nov. 17, 2011 in Eastland, TX, with burial at the
Eastland Cemetery.
Opal was born on June 19, 1925 in Crosbyton, TX to
S.T. and Eva Eaton. She grew up in the Olden and
Ranger, TX area. Opal attended Ranger High School
in the Class of 1943. She began her 58 year marriage
to O.L. "Loyd" Elrod (RHS-1943) in Nov. of 1944 at
Ranger, TX. Loyd was in the civil service and this
moved them for a time to Pyote, Monahans & Mineral
Wells, TX. They moved back to Eastland County and
settled in Eastland, TX in the late 1950s where
they lived together until Loyd’s death in 2003. Opal
managed the Dairy King in Eastland during the early
1960s and worked at Hollywood Vasserette in Eastland.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Eastland.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Loyd Elrod,
two sisters, Gladys Eaton McCrary and Elnora Eaton
Overstreet, one brother, W.T. Eaton (RHS-1948); 5
great-grandchildren, Matthew Dean Chaney, Colin Bailey,
Hannah Grace Bailey, Airen Bailey, & Dash Bailey.
At the time of her death, she was survived by daughter,
Julie Chaney and husband, Gayle of Eastland; son, Dan
Elrod and wife, Julie, of Gordon; four grandchildren,
Mark Chaney and wife Pamela of Eastland; Angie Bailey
and husband Patrick of Sugar Grove, IL; Bryan Elrod
of Eastland, Brent Elrod and wife Kacy of Dallas;
eight great-grandchildren, Brady, Briley and Tacey
Elrod; C.J. Chaney; Anthony, Aiden, Abigail and Andon
Bailey.
