Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1944

Veteran of WWII Mildred Cole Shelton HAROLD LUTHER "JACK" SHELTON, 85, of Ranger, TX passed away March 24, 2012 in Ranger, with burial at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, TX. Mr. Shelton was born Oct. 22, 1926 in Ranger to Luther Shelton & Mabel Calvert. He attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1944 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Mildred “Jean” Cole in Strawn in 1945. He was a mechanic, a Baptist and a member of the Strawn Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Jake Cole Shelton in 1994 as well as two sisters; Virginia Dameon Shelton and Deola Shelton (both of RHS-1930). Survivors include his wife; Marj Lamb, Kay Scibek, Sue Curtis and George Anna Smith. WIFE: MILDRED JEAN COLE SHELTON, 90, went home to Heaven and the arms of her husband and son. Mildred was born Feb. 9, 1928 in Strawn, TX to Edward Leonard & Lula Pearl Sandlin Cole and grew up in the Strawn area. In May of 1945, she married Harold Luther “Jack” Shelton (RHS-1944) and spent the next 66 years by his side until his death in 2012. Mildred was a bookkeeper and loved working with people. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a Baptist. She was a very well put together lady, always looking her best. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack, her only child, a son, Jack Cole Shelton who passed away 1994. Mildred was the youngest of 13 children who have all preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a beloved niece Kay Scibek. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.
