Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1944

Robert Hood ROBERT FRANKLIN "BILL" HOOD, 62, died on April 17, 1987 in Gorman, TX. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX. He was born on Feb. 14, 1925 in Ranger, TX, to Ernest F. & Mattie Hood. He attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during WWII and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, he returned to Ranger, married Betty Jean McGowan (RHS-1944) and worked for Premier Oil Company for 13 years. Bill was a Texas grand champion fiddle player during the 60's and 70's. He loved to play the fiddle with a number of fellow musicians throughout the state. His style was mostly western swing, but he also loved the old time tunes such as Sally Good'n and Orange Blossom Special. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ernest M.”Bo” Hood. Survivors include his wife Betty who lives near Waco, and daughter Robbie Sloan and husband David of Hewitt, TX, sons, Robert “Bob” Hood and McLon Hood of Waco, sister, June Hood Neeley (RHS-1955) of Mineral Wells, four grandchildren & several great-grandchildren.
