ANDREW LEWIS JACKSON, SR., 74, died in San Antonio,
TX. He joined his brothers, Albert and Walter, & his
parents Dr. Walter Lee and Exa Merle Lewis Jackson.
His family, Texas pioneers, was never boring. Humor,
sensitivity, decisiveness and profound patience were
hallmarks of this Christmas baby, born Dec. 24, 1927.
His hobbies were model railroading, woodworking,
fishing and his family. He loved being with friends,
playing dominoes, "42" and "84." More than that,
Andy loved to tease and have fun.
Andy grew up in the oil boom town of Ranger, TX. He
attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1946 and
graduated from Baylor University in 1950. He served in
the Air National Guard and was active duty Air Force.
Following that, he opened an insurance agency and
participated in the Arlington Chapter of Kiwanis. In
1960 he joined Gulf Atlantic Insurance Company. In 1975,
he joined American Indemnity Insurance Company, retiring
in 1996. He loved serving on the Insurance Committee at
his church and teaching young children with his wife, Jo.
He is survived by his wife (of almost 51 years), Joanne,
two daughters, Sandy and Mindy, and a son, Andy. Sandy
Jackson lives in San Antonio. Mindy Smith and her husband,
Dan, live in Prattville, AL. Andrew and his wife, Sharon,
live in West, Texas. He was so proud of his grandchildren,
Amy Smith Lostroh, and her husband, Stephen, Andy Smith,
Tyler Smith, Joshua Jackson and Zachary Jackson. He was
blessed to have so many relatives, nieces, nephews and
great friends.
Joanne Smith of Putnam and Andy met on a "blind" date in
March of 1951, while she was a student at Ranger Jr.
College and he was in Ranger on leave while serving with
the U.S. Air Force at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth. They
were married in Oct. of 1951.
