WELDON CUNNINGHAM, 75, of Ranger, TX passed
away on March 20, 2010 after a long, hard, courageous
battle with pancreatic cancer. He was cremated and
returned to the land that he lived on and loved for
70 years.
Weldon was born on July 31, 1934 in Ranger, TX to Dell
and Ola Cunningham who preceded him in death. Weldon
attended public school in Ranger and also attended
Ranger Jr. College. He was president of the Ranger
High School Senior Class of 1951.
Anyone who knew Weldon knew that football was his
first love…..in particular, Ranger Bulldog football.
He was honored to have played for O.C. "Stubby" Warden
during the years of 1948-1950. He received "All-District"
honors in 1950. Weldon was a past member and president
of Southwest Football Officials Association (SFOA).
Weldon retired from Lone Star Gas Company with 38 years
of service in 1994. He later began working at Tractor
Supply Company in Eastland and continued to work until
his cancer forced him into retirement in 2008.
Weldon is survived by his wife of 46 years, Garlan
Cunningham, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael (RHS-
1984) & Cher Cunningham of Breckenridge, his daughter
and son-in-law, Mindy and Terry Whitaker of Eastland,
granddaughters, Taryn Cunningham of Breckenridge,
Ryleigh Whitaker of Eastland, and soon-to-be grand-
daughter, Keeli Blaize "Pebbles" Whitaker of Eastland.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and
friends.
