MAX EVERETT GODWIN, 70, of Buckeye, AZ
went to be with Jesus our Savior on Sept. 14,
2004, after a short battle with cancer. Burial
was in Louis B. Hazelton Memorial Cemetery at
Buckeye.
Max was born to Lewis C. & Maye Coker Godwin on
Aug. 10, 1934, in Levelland, TX. The oldest of four
children, he attended Ranger High School in the
Class of 1951 at Ranger, TX but graduated from
Lake View High School. He served as a radar man
on the USS Corry DD817 in the U.S. Navy for four
years during the Korean War. In 1964, Max moved
his family to San Angelo and opened Godwin's Carpet.
For 40 years, Max sold & installed carpet in Texas
and Arizona. He will be remembered by those who
knew him as a man of hard work, a stunning smile
and a love to share Christ with others.
Max was preceded in death by his father, Lewis
Godwin Sr.; and his brother, Lewis Godwin Jr.,
both of Odessa.
He is survived by his wife, Glenette Bailey
Godwin of Buckeye, AZ; his mother, Maye Godwin;
brother, Phillip Godwin; sister, Kay Kennedy, all
of Odessa; and the mother of his children, Jean
Godwin of San Angelo. Also surviving Max are his
children, oldest daughter, Patricia Godwin and
Amy Wood of Chandler, AZ; daughter, Melissa &
Alan Hill of San Angelo; son, Mike and Ellen
Godwin of San Angelo; and stepson, Tracy & Kelly
Bailey of Snowflake, AZ. Grampa Max has seven
grandchildren, Amanda Hill, Shane Godwin, Alana
Hill & Natalie Godwin, all of San Angelo, Brandi
Jones, Lindsey Bailey and Tracy Dee Bailey of
Snowflake, AZ. He also has a 1-year-old great-
grandson, Tyler Jones.
