CHARLES DAVID BLACKWELL, 79, of Midland, TX, passed
away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on
Oct. 13, 2012, with interment at Serenity Memorial
Gardens.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1933, in Ranger, TX. Charles
was raised in Ranger and attended Ranger High School
in the Class of 1952. He moved to Odessa, where he
graduated from Odessa High School. After graduation
in 1953, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, where he
served in the Korean Conflict. David settled in
Midland in 1966. He worked with Qualified Printers
for 35 years. He later met and married Josie Reyes
in December of 1987. David was an avid steel guitar
player. He enjoyed gardening, grilling outdoors, and
spending quality time with his loving family. He also
enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team, the Texas
Rangers. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church.
Charles is preceded in death by his father, Dempsey
"Slim" Blackwell and his mother, Yuba Blackwell. At
the time of his death, he was survived by his wife,
Josie Reyes Blackwell; four sons: Edward Perez and
wife, Juanita; Robert Perez and wife, Rita; Stephen
Perez; and Carlos Perez; two daughters, Priscilla De
La Rosa with Ric Rivera and Lisa Molinar, all of
Midland. He is also survived by his brother, Bill
Blackwell of Stephenville, TX and his sister, Cindy
Matheny of Tulsa, OK; fourteen grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grand-
children.
