NELDA LOU CARAWAY MORRISON, 89 of Breckenridge,
TX, passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2025 in Abilene,
TX, with burial in Macedonia Cemetery.
Nelda was born on Oct. 12, 1935 in Ranger, TX to
HL & Velma Caraway. She was raised in the LaCasa
community in Southeast Stephens County & graduated
from Ranger High School in 1954. Nelda attended
Draughon's Business College in Abilene, where she
met her future husband, Norman Morrison. They were
married in Aug. of 1955 at the New Hope Baptist
Church. The couple moved to Breckenridge in 1960,
where they made their permanent home and raised
their family.
Nelda worked as a secretary for several businesses
in Breckenridge, including The Popular Store, Davis
Manufacturing and C&W Transport. Despite her career,
Nelda always felt called to the ministry, a call she
answered in the early 80's by opening her in-home
daycare. Over the course of 20 plus years, she
lovingly cared for and impacted the lives of many
children, leaving a lasting legacy in the Breckenridge
community.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Breckenridge,
Nelda was actively involved in many church activities
throughout her life. She faithfully attended the
Whosoever Sunday School class, where she served as
class secretary. Nelda was also deeply involved in
the women?s ministry, serving as Ladies Night Out
Coordinator for many years. She was a past member
of the LLL Group and sang in the Big Country Choir,
where her love for music and service to others shone
brightly.
Nelda's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and
she was known for her warm, kind spirit. She was
affectionately called "Nana" by those who loved her.
Her love, generosity, and devotion to her family and
community touched the lives of everyone she met.
Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, HL and
Velma Caraway, and her beloved husband of 49 years,
Norman Morrison, who passed away in 2004, and her
nephew, Rusty Caraway.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Knight and
husband Butch of Breckenridge; her son, Bob Morrison
of Graham; her grandchildren, Kody Knight and wife
Kriste of Brock, TX, Monte Knight and wife Jazzminde
of Valley Mills, TX, Colt Morrison and wife Teddy of
Devol, OK; and her great-grandchildren, Kyler Knight
and wife Jacie, Kason Knight, Bella Morrison, Noah
Knight, Jackie Knight, and Jonah Knight. Nelda is
also survived by her great-great-granddaughter,
Oakleigh Knight; her brother Jim Caraway (RHS-1958)
and wife Judy of Breckenridge; sister-in-law Marjorie
Power of Comanche, Texas, and brother-in-law Dwain
Cottrell and Ruth of Irving, Texas; as well as a host
of other family and friends.
