VONNIE LAVERNE SHOOK MAINKA, 84, of Andrews, TX
passed away on Sept. 2, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Burial was at Andrews North Cemetery.
Vonnie was born July 21, 1938, in Gorman, TX to Faughn
E. Shook & Oma B. Wilson Shook. She attended Ranger High
School in the Class of 1957 at Ranger, TX. Vollie married
Paul Mainka Sr. in Jan. of 1958 in Ranger, TX. They spent
59 amazing years together until his passing in 2017. She
enjoyed family vacation at the lake. She also liked to
make home crafted item for her family. She was famous
for her homemade German Chocolate and Mississippi Mud
Cakes.
Vonnie is survived by her: 3 sons: Paul Mainka, Jr.,
and wife Tracy of Andrews, TX; Richard Mainka and wife
Dorothy of Rising Star, TX; and David Mainka and wife
Rebecca of Bangs, TX; grandchildren, Olen Nicholson,
Roxanne Mainka, Paula Goff, Ryan Mainka, Stephen Mainka,
Justin Mainka, Mitchell Mainka, Krista Womack; Great-
grandchildren; Brady and Cheyenne Nicholson, Renner
Mainka, Barrett Mainka, Paityn Brown & Raylon Mainka,
Piper and Leo Mainka, and Remi and Dominic Womack. Her
special friend was Leticia Figuero.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Faughn Shook
& Oma, step-father, Milton Underwood, husband, Paul
Mainka, brother, Henry Burl Shook (RHS-1960) & sister,
Launettte Shook Veal (RHS-1947).
HUSBAND: PAUL MAINKA SR., 82, of Andrews, TX passed
away on March 13, 2017, with burial in the Andrews
North Cemetery.
Paul was born on Jan. 25, 1935 in Weesatche, TX to
Theodor Mainka & Rosalie Guzy Mainka. He was raised
in Yorktown, TX & graduated from Yorktown High School
in 1955. He played football and baseball at Ranger
Jr. College. He married Vonnie Laverne Shook in 1958
at Ranger. They moved to Andrews in 1958. He had
worked in the oil field as a roughneck & had worked
25 years for the County of Andrews Courthouse and
Parks Department.
He was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Andrews
and was Catholic. He loved working in his garden,
and had a green thumb in growing unique and large
vegetables. He loved to work and tinker on things
around the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers,
and 2 sisters.
Paul is survived by his wife, Vonnie Mainka of Andrews,
3 sons, Paul Mainka, Jr., and wife, Tracy, of Andrews,
Richard Mainka and wife, Dorothy, of Gardendale, and
David Mainka and wife, Rebecca, of Bangs, TX, 1 sister,
Elisabeth Friedrichs of Meyersville, TX, 8 grandchildren,
and 6 great-grandchildren.
