RAYMOND DAYLE PENNEY, 79, passed away on
Oct. 29, 2023 in Arlington, TX where he was diag-
nosed and battled Lymphoma for over 5 months.
Dayle was born June 30, 1944 to Dodds Penney and
Cozette Wilkinson Penney (RHS-1931, RISD teacher)
in Ranger, TX. Dayle's only sibling, Jonell Penney
Peace (RHS-1957).
The home in Ranger were they grew up had electricity
but no running water or indoor plumbing, and they
had an ice box instead of a refrigerator. Dayle
attended Ranger elementary and then Ranger High
School where he graduated in 1962. Dayle attended
Ranger Jr. College for two years before he decided
to enroll in the U.S. Air Force in 1964. He spent
two years of his service traveling through German
& Europe. After returning to the States, he was
honorably discharged and received medals for
National Defense and Good Conduct.
Day spent the next few years working for Firestone/
Nissan/Datsun before he became employed at General
Dynamics. In Jan. of 1970, Dayle married Sheila
Jean Cunningham in Arlington and they enjoyed the
next 47 years of wonderful marriage. While Working
in Waterloo Belgium, 11 years after marriage, Dayle
& Sheila where blessed with a son, David Allen Penney.
Two years later they moved back to Arlington where
he spent the remainder of his time working for
General Dynamics until retirement. Dayle's wife
Sheila passed away in 2017, Not long after Sheila's
passing he was lucky enough to meet Sandy Owens-
Allsup (RHS-1962) who loved him and cared for him
unconditionally until the day of his passing.
He enjoyed many great adventures during his life
time and loved flying (as a certified pilot),
hunting, fishing, boxing, riding motorcycles,
hot rods, & spending time with his grandchildren.
He had a wonderful bright sense of humor that he
carried on until the day of his passing.
Dayle is survived by his son David Allen Penney
& family Tatiana Lorena Penney (daughter-in-law),
Winston Cole Penney (grandson), Ford Prescott
Penney (grandson).
WIFE: SHEILA JEAN CUNNINGHAM PENNEY,
66, of Azle, TX passed away unexpectedly on March 18,
2017, surrounded by family & friends, with interment
at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX.
Survivors: Husband of 47 years, Dayle Penney; son,
David Penney, wife, Tatiana, and grandson, Winston;
brothers, David, Bill and Jim Cunningham; niece,
Jolie Dearman; aunt, Sybil Shires; cousins, Regina
Crews, Elizabeth Melton; nephews, Jaret and Jason
Burgess; sisters-in-law, Berta Burgess and Judy
Ricketts.
