MATTIE "MAUD" PHELPS WELLS ROBERTS, 93,
died on Dec. 10, 1985 in Odessa, TX, with burial
in the East End Cemetery at Lingleville, TX.
Mattie was born on March 12, 1892 in Lingleville, TX
to John W. & Talitha Whitefield Wells. She was a
teacher at Ranger High School in Ranger, TX during
the late 1920s. She married Robert Henry Roberts in
1920 & he died in 1930. Their two children were
Sharlon Roberts & Almaryne Roberts. Siblings of
Mattie were James W. Wells, Bernie A. Wells, Maud
Wells, Addie Wells, Minnie Wells, Pearl Wells, &
Tina E. Wells.
NOTE: Her daughter, Almaryne Roberts Thompson, died
on July 29, 2017 at the age of 88. She was born
in Ranger, TX on August 28, 1928 & grew up in
Stephenville, TX. She married John W. Thompson
in 1945 & they had a son. Her brother, Sharlon,
died in North Korea in 1950.
