HAROLD D. "ACE" PRESCOTT, 81, passed away on May 4,
2002 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer at
the age of 81. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
He was with his family when he reunited with his Lord.
"Ace" was born on Oct. 18, 1920 in Abilene, TX, to
Justice & Ruth McDougal Prescott. He attended school
in Abilene, graduating from Phoenix High School in
1939. He attended Hardin-Simmons where he played
football and was captain of the 1942 team.
After college, he served in the Army during WWII. He
was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. During his
service to our country, he was awarded the Purple Heart
& the Bronze Star. After the war he played professional
football for the Green Bay Packers (1945-1947)and the
World Champion Philadelphia Eagles (1948-1949). "Ace"
returned to Hardin-Simmons in 1950 and received his
master's degree in 1951.
"Ace" married Bernice Odell Bush in Nov. of 1949. She
preceded him in death in 1991. "Ace" coached football
for 37 years, 14 years in high school sports at Falfurrias,
Raymondville, Ranger, & Burkburnett. He then coached 23
years at Cisco Jr. College where he retired as Athletic
Director in 1987. "Ace's" greatest joy was fishing for
large-mouth bass, believing that the only good lure was a
6-inch Creme Purple Worm on a Texas Rig.
Survivors at the time of his death include a daughter,
Denise Avants & husband James of Cisco; two sons, Harold
Prescott Jr. and wife Jill of Cisco, J.D. and wife Sherry
of Paradise; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
and many friends.
