HOMER LEE COODY was born July 28, 1915 & died April 1, 1994,
while living in Beaumont, TX. Homer Lee & Betty Davis Coody came
to Ranger, TX in the late 40s. Betty attended Ranger Jr. College
in the 1949-1950 and 1950-1951 school years, while her husband
was on the college faculty, graduating in 1951. She later taught
elementary classes. Homer Lee was a teacher and became Principal
of Ranger High School from 1950-1956 and taught in years after
that. A son, Michael Lee Coody was born prior to their move to
Ranger & died in 1996 from complications of diabetes. Another
son, Charles Daniel Coody, was born in Ranger.
Homer Coody was the principal at French High School in Beaumont
for 14 years before he retired. Betty was the first woman to be
admitted in the School of Education Administration at the University
of Texas. When Texas A&M went co-ed, they brought her in to set
up the women's curriculum and to teach the first women's courses.
She was appointed Regent's Professor and retired Emeritus from
Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.
Betty Davis Coody lives in Fayetteville, AR, at this time next
door to where her son, Charles Daniel & his wife Deborah live.
