LYNN HENRY GENTRY, 74, was born Jan. 13, 1902, and was
married to Essie Lucile Lee. He drove a Ranger school
bus in Ranger, TX for many years. They had a son, Doyle
(RHS-1955), and three daughters, Sandra Lynn Gentry
(RHS-1965), Peggy Akers RHS-1957) of Hurst and Gwendolyn
Gentry Campbell (RHS-1947) of Grandbury. Two grandchildren
also attended Ranger High School, grandson Jackie Gentry
(RHS-1978), and granddaughter Kelly Gentry Bond (RHS-1981).
Mr. Gentry died in May, 1976, at Ranger. Doyle Gentry
died in 2002 and Sandra Lynn Gentry died in 1996.

Lynn Gentry, bus driver for the Ranger Independent School
District for the past 22 years, was named Texas' Most
outstanding School Bus Driver of the Year at the Texas
Motor Transportation Association's annual conference in
Houston.
The 64-year-old Ranger resident was presented a plaque
and a $300 cash award, donated by the Shamrock Van Lines
of Dallas.
Gentry was selected over five other regional winners, who
competed with more than 8,000 school bus drivers for the
regional honors.
"My first concern in driving a bus has always been and
always will be the safety of the child," Gentry remarked
when he was presented the award at the Houston Shamrock
Hilton Hotel.
During his 22 years of accident-free bus driving, Gentry
has logged more than 250,000 miles. For 21 consecutive
years, he has not missed a single bus schedule.
Nominations for the TMTA awards are submitted annually by
Texas county school superintendents to the Texas Education
Agency and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Regional winners received a plaque and a $50 cash award
each. They and their wives are hosted at the three-day
convention.
