CAROL SUE MERRITT WALLACE, 62, went home to be
with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 7,
2008 at home on Indian Creek Pond.
Carol was born Jan. 15th, 1946 in Waco, TX to
Minnie Lenora & Raymond Edward Merritt. Carol
was five years old when her mother married James
Dillard Mordecai who she knew as her father.
In 1970, she married Edward Lee Wallace (RHS-1954)
of Ranger, TX. Together they raised three children,
Caren, Hank and Joanna along with an "adopted" son
Colonel David A. Lujan.
Carol lived a simple life full of compassion and
kindness. She was always willing to help others in
any way she could. She loved life and she genuinely
loved people; she honestly never met a stranger.
Early in her life she traveled and lived in South
America and many different parts of the U.S. She
then moved back to Texas, settling with her family
in Ranger, where she loved babysitting a host of
young Ranger children and leading a full life as a
Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader for Eastland County
and as a wife and wonderful mother before moving to
Indian Creek Pond near Strawn, TX. As a home health
care worker she provided loving care to several
people in and around Ranger during their final days,
including her own mother and mother-in-law. The
compassion and wisdom she passed on to her children
enabled them to care for her in the same fashion.
In her years at Indian Creek Pond she enjoyed her
herb garden, trying new recipes to share with family
and friends and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a grandmother who did things with her grand-
children, not just for them. Her grandchildren feel
blessed to have had a grandmother who took them
camping, on trips, built forts with them and loved
them as much as she did.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Her survivors include: her husband Eddy Wallace,
children, Caren Alvis & husband James, Hank Morgan
(RHS-1982) & wife Mimi Henderson Morgan (RHS-1977),
Joanna Barron (RHS-1994) and husband Jeremy (RHS-
1993), Colonel David Lujan and wife Michelle. Ten
grandchildren, Matthew Morgan and wife Tonya, Gage
