DAVID DOOM PICKRELL, 72 was born Jan. 22, 1893, in Austin,
TX, and died Dec. 24, 1965. He was the son of John
Henry & Annie Doom Pickrell. He had a daughter by an early
marriage. He married Mildred Irene Barnes in 1932 and they
had one son, David Doom Pickrell, II, born in Ranger, TX who
was in the Ranger High School Class of 1961. The Pickrells
moved to Ranger in 1941 when Mr. Pickrell took over the
position of Superintendent of the Premier Oil Refining Plant.
Mr. Pickrell was a graduate of the University of Texas Law
School. Other than his work in the oil industry he later
owned and managed insurance and real estate firms in Ranger
and had a great interest in ranching and farming. Civic
minded, Mr. Pickrell helped start Lake Leon and he served
on the Board of Regents of Ranger College and the Board of
the First Methodist Church, was a member of the Rotary Club
and a past president of the Ranger Chamber of Commerce.
WIFE: MILDRED IRENE BARNES PICKRELL, 87, was born Sept. 12,
1905, and raised in Peru, NE, where she was educated. Her
father was a druggist in Peru and Mildred and her sister
Gwendolyn later went to live with their Mother, Ada Conger
Barnes in Kansas City where they worked as secretaries. She
was an accomplished violinist. In 1932 she was married to
David D. Pickrell. They had one son, David, Jr. who was in
the RHS Class of 1961. Mrs. Pickrell died in February of
1992. Prior to her death she continued to work with the
Pickrell insurance and real estate businesses and to live
on the family farm, south of Ranger. Her sister, Gwendolyn
Mae Meacham died in 1968 and was buried in Eastland.
