Ranger Exes Memorial - Others

Pauline Bowen PAULINE LAVERNE BOWEN BRENEMAN, 87, of Ranger passed away peacefully August 7, 2011 after a lengthy illness with her family by her side. Pauline was born July 11, 1924 in Ranger, TX. The youngest of 5 daughters of the late Oliver Calvin & Pearlie Mae Bowen. She attended Colony School outside of Ranger. Pauline and her husband, Chester H. Breneman, lived in Hutchins for a few years before moving back to her home town of Ranger in 1970 where they raised their 4 children. Pauline worked for Eastland Memorial Hospital for 15 years, retiring at age 72 in 1996, being the oldest employee at the time for the hospital. Pauline was a past member of Order of Eastern Star, a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, and did some baby-sitting, but was mostly known for her many talents she acquired by being a homemaker for the majority of her life. She worked harder than most employed people do. Pauline always had a bountiful garden and what she didn’t give away to friends and family, she cooked and canned everything under the sun. Many fruit trees and those darn pecan trees, always had nuts or limbs to pick up after a strong wind. When growing season was over, she would get busy either sewing, knitting, embroidering, crocheting or quilting, and most of their clothes were handmade. As adults they have all received many treasured quilts, blankets, afghans & table cloths to name a few items made with her loving hands. Not to mention grandkids and a few others who have received many priceless quilts and other handmade items as well. If you ever stopped by her house for a visit within just a few minutes she would be off in the kitchen to whip up something to eat, no one would ever leave Pauline’s hungry. Her children have tried to duplicate many of her famous dishes some of which are close, but Pauline was known for being an excellent home- style country cook. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Chester on January 3, 1981, sisters Dorothy Carr on July 16, 2005 and Mae Isabell on April 15, 2009, and 1 sister Verble Lee Bowen who passed away 7 months before Pauline was born.
