RICHARD RILEY "DICK" ALWORTH, 94, a retired Regional
Superintendent for Humble Oil (Exxon-Mobil) for 37
years died in his sleep Oct. 9, 2004 in Del Mar, CA.
Born Nov. 27, 1910 in Bartlesville, OK, he graduated
High School in Ranger, TX in the Class of 1928, then
had two years of college at Oklahoma University. He
started working part-time for Humble Oil at 17 as a
day laborer. He later was Superintendent for Offshore
Drilling in Grand Isle, Louisiana. He then was sent
to Brookhaven, MS & then to Hobbs, NM where he retired.
He returned for two years to again direct the Offshore
Operation. He and his wife, Elizabeth "Beth" Alworth,
retired to Del Mar where he enjoyed both his passion
for reading & golf at which he had a 3 handicap. Dick
was a member in good standing of the Scottish Rite of
Freemasonry in New Orleans, LA where he had attained
his 32 stars standing.
A widower for nine years, he leaves two children, Ann
Lauman and her husband Gerry of Jackson, MS and Lance
Alworth and his wife Laura of Del Mar, CA. Grandchildren
Mike, Rick, Gerryann, Lance Jr., Kelly, and Rian and
six great-grandchildren with another on the way; Jax,
Mandy, Riley, Joe, Brian and Nino. His sister was
Eleanor Alworth Craig (RHS-1923).
