JANIE YVONNE IVY SMITH, 79, of Stanton, TX
died on Jan. 12, 2004 in a Stanton nursing
home, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in
Ranger, TX.
She was born on April 9, 1924, in Ranger and
married Jesse Leroy Smith (RHS-1939) on May 22,
1939, in Eastland. They lived in Midland the
last 11 years but lived and worked in various
countries around the world during their earlier
married life. She enjoyed bowling, traveling,
and meeting and being with people. She loved
children and beside her three, she took in and
raised several other children. She always took
the time to help those in need.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Jesse
Leroy Smith of Stanton, two sons and daughters-
in-law, Stanley and Marianne Smith of Abilene,
Michael T. and Jackie Smith of Stanton; one
daughter and son-in-law, Rene & Barry Heard of
Whitharral; her sister, Wanda Dublin (RHS-1938)
of Midland; 7 grandchildren; seven great-grand-
children; and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John
W. and Clara Sparger Ivy & one brother, Quitman
Echlon Ivy (RHS-1944).
