BOBBY RAY EAKIN, 73, died Aug. 13, 2001 in Houston,
TX, with burial there in the Veteran’s Cemetery.
He was born March 14, 1928, in Eastland County, TX
Anolia E. Johnson & Carl F. Eakin, Sr. He attended
Ranger High School in the Class of 1945 at Ranger,
TX. He was a graduate of Baylor University and
married Billie Wray Kay of Madisonville in 1949
and they had five children, four boys and one girl.
She survives as Billie Wray Strauss of Georgetown,
TX. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army Para-
troopers.
He later married Mary Jane Tamborello who survives.
Also surviving are his five children, including his
daughter, Melissa of Conroe, a son, William "Lindy"
of Lawrence, KS, who is a faculty member and Vice
Provost at the University of Kansas, a son, Bobby
Ray, Jr. of Austin, TX, a son, Blair of Huntsville,
TX, and a son, Marshall C., of Nashville, TN, head
of the History Department at Vanderbilt University.
Also surviving are brothers; Carl F. Eakin, Jr. (RHS-
1938) of Yoakum, TX, Billie Eakin (RHS-1948) of
Reno, NV, Alex Eakin of CA, and John Franklin Eakin.
His brother James Voncile Eakin (RHS-1941) and his
sister Desma Eakin Wadsworth (RHS-1957) are deceased.
