Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1949

Clara Jean Sharp CLARA JEAN SHARP HOUX, 77, a homemaker, died on Oct. 31, 2006, in Fort Worth, TX, with burial was in the New Gordon Cemetery. Clara Jean was born July 6, 1929, in Olden to M.C. and Dessie Hamilton Sharp. She grew up in Ranger and was a graduate of Ranger High School at Ranger, TX. Clara Jean married James F. Houx in Jan. of 1951 at Gordon & they lived in Gordon for a short time before moving to Kansas, and from there to Fort Worth. She was a homemaker and mother and enjoyed garage sales, canning and her grandchildren. Clara Jean was a member of Western Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Curtis Sharp (RHS-1952); and sister, Maxine Sharp Norris (RHS- 1944). Survivors: her husband of 55 years, James F. Houx of Fort Worth; daughter, Carla Houx of Benbrook; son, Frank Houx and his wife, Joanie, of Aledo; grandchildren, Jordan, Casey and Kylie; brother, Jerry Sharp and wife, Francis, of Strawn; sisters, Shirley Sharp Gentry (RHS-1958) of Ranger & Kathy Sharp McIntire (RHS-1968) & husband, Ron, of Breckenridge; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. James Houx HUSBAND: JAMES F. HOUX, 80, of Fort Worth and formerly of Gordon, passed away on Jan. 16, 2008, at a Fort Worth nursing home, with interment in the New Gordon Cemetery. Mr. Houx was born May 26, 1927, in Gordon to Frank Everett & Mona Irene Mott Houx. He was a graduate of Gordon High School and attended Tarleton State University and Texas A&M. James entered the Navy during World War II and before being shipped out, the war ended. James married Clara Jean Sharp (RHS-1949) in Jan of 1951, at Gordon; she preceded him in death in 2006. James worked all his life on the family ranch, raising cattle, and also had a dirt-working business. Later, with his son, he had Houx Construction. He was a member of the Texas and South- western Cattle Raisers Association and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM of Stephenville and served on the board of Barton Creek Water Co-op. James was a member of Western Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. Survivors at the time of his death: daughter, Carla Houx of Benbrook; son, Frank Houx and wife, Joanie, of Aledo; grand- children, Jordan, Casey and Kylie; and numerous other extended family and friends.
