Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1951

Betty Davenport BETTY "BETSY" MERLE DAVENPORT HANNAH, 81, passed away on Aug. 23, 2014 in California. Betsy was born August 15, 1933 in Ranger TX to Wyatt & Chaney Davenport. She attended St. Rita's Catholic School and Ranger High School in the Class of 1951. She then joined her older brother Dub Davenport in Merced, CA in the early 1960's. Betsy had a very outgoing personality and winning smile, she quickly landed a job at Serv-U Drug in Merced, and she became a favorite among customers. It was at that time she met a handsome young police officer, John Hannah who would become the love of her life. They were happily married for 52 years. Betsy had a quick wit and sometimes a sharp tongue. Many might question if it was wisdom or reprimand but you knew what Betsy thought about any given topic. She loved to read and insisted on buying first edition hard back books and also loved her jigsaw puzzles until her vision began to fail. Betsy embraced life with great enthusiasm. She loved going to the ocean, Lake Tahoe, dinning out, social gatherings and week- end trips. Her greatest love, however, was for her husband John and brother Dub. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and outgoing personality. She was preceded in death by her cherished grandmother, Alice Landers, parents, Wyatt & Chaney Marie (Brashier) Davenport, brother Wyatt "Dub" Davenport (RHS-1950), sister Billie Davenport Ward (RHS-1943) and her beloved husband, John Hannah. In addition she was preceded in death by Dinky, Dudley, Holly, and survived by Charlie, her four-legged friends. At the time of her death, she was survived by two nieces, two nephews, her longtime care giver, friend Elvira Montes, and a host of friends. The morning of August 23rd Betsy left this earth & took a part of our hearts with her.
