Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1953

Walton Shaffer DR. WALTON LOUAINE SHAFFER, a founding chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at Browns-McHardy Clinic died June 12, 1996 at his home in Metairie, LA. He had just turned 60 on March 20, 1996, with burial in the Hope Mausoleum. Dr. Shaffer was born March 20, 1936, in Strawn, TX, to Cecil L. Shaffer & Anna Sadver Shaffer (both deceased). He attended St. Rita's Parochial school & graduated from Ranger High School at Ranger, TX with high honors in 1953. He was a graduate of St. Edward's University in Austin and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He interned at Duke University, was assistant chief at Webb Air Force Base Hospital in Big Spring and completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Shaffer developed the Rape Crisis Program at the Lakeside Hospital in Metairie, LA, which provides help to the rape victims through the Jefferson Parish Coroner's and district attorney's office. He was named Chief of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Lakeside Hospital in 1973 and was a member of the hospital's board of directors from 1974 to 1978. He was also the President of the medical staff. He was chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Browns-McHardy Clinic from 1986 to 1994. He was a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and a member of the Advisory Council of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Jefferson Parish and Louisiana Medical Society. Survivors include his wife, Paula Jeanne Mackey Shaffer; a son, Victor A. Shaffer; a daughter, Jennifer Shaffer Nolan; his mother, Ann Sadver Shaffer; and two sisters, Patricia Shaffer Trussell (RHS-1956) of El Paso & Linda Shaffer Schaab (RHS-1957) of Ballwin, MO. MOTHER: ANNA D. SADVER SHAFFER, 87, of Ranger, TX passed away on April 16, 2003, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger. Mrs. Shaffer was born on May 16, 1915 in Lyra, TX, to George & Mary Manick Sadver. She attended school at Strawn. She married Cecil L. Shaffer in 1935, he preceded her in death in 1990. She was a faithful and active member of St. Rita's Catholic Church where she was a past Altar Society President. She was a homemaker and well known for her excellent cooking and baking abilities. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia L. Trussell (RHS-1956) of El Paso; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda (RHS-1957) and Bill Schaab of St. Louis, MO; a daughter-in-law, Paula Shaffer of Metairie, LA; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Lewis Janosek of Austin; four grandchildren; four great-grand- children; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Dr. Walton Louaine Shaffer (RHS-1953).
