JERRY L. RUSHING, 69, died Dec. 19, 2004 in Athens,
TX. Jerry had battled cancer for 18 months.
He was born May 18, 1935 in Sweetwater, TX to the late
Lemuel Thomas & Della Folmar Rushing. He was preceded
in death by a brother, Allen T. Rushing (RHS-1947),
father-in-law, J.C. Price & step-mother, Selma Gailey
Rushing. Burial was at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Wynona Price
Rushing, sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Lee and Rachel
Ford Rushing, Waco, Tom & Tammy Pierce Rushing, Chandler,
grandchildren, Amber and Heather Rushing, Waco, Taylor
Allen and Caleb Rushing, Chandler, mother-in-law, Clara
Price, Athens, three special nieces, Tammy Rushing
Quintero, Cypress, Rhonda Rushing Kelly, Little River,
Julie Rushing Page, Victoria.
Jerry retired in Nov. of 1997 from Lone Star Gas Company
with almost 40 years of service. Following retirement, he
worked for Elk Engineering of Fort Worth, TX. He had a
love for his work in cathodic protection as a occupation.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed on
San Clemente Island, CA, at the time of his marriage to
Wynona in Dec. of 1957. He was a charter member of the
Breakfast Kiwanis Club and honorary member of the Pilot
Club of Athens where he assisted in their projects as well
as serving as photographer. The Athens High School Band
program was special to him and he assisted in this program
from the late 1970's through the 1990's. He was an amateur
radio operator and enjoyed anything that involved community
service. The Rushing's joined First Baptist Church in 1960
when they moved to Athens from Ranger.
Jerry attended school in Snyder and Ranger where he was a
graduate of the Ranger High School Class of 1953. He then
attended Ranger Jr. College. Jerry coached the Babe Ruth
League in Athens in the 1960's and enjoyed working with
the youth.
