Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1958

Barbara Lewis BARBARA NADINE LEWIS JONES, 65, died on March 31, 2007, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger, TX. Barbara was born on April 22, 1941 in Ranger to Leon Lewis Sr., and Delia Hewing Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a longtime employee of Montgomery Wards in the auto tire department. She was a graduate of Ranger High School and received a Bachelors degree from Cisco Junior College and a Masters degree from Tarleton State University. She married Johnnie Jones in November of 1965 in Eastland, TX. Barbara worked part-time for the Ranger Junior College in the library and later as a professor teaching history for some 31 years. She was also a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Lewis Sr., Della Lewis, and a son Adrian Lewis (RHS-1983). At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband Johnnie "Red" Jones of Ranger, children; Christopher "Chris" Lewis of Ranger, Gerald Lewis (RHS-1982) of Fort Worth, Famous Johnson of Ranger, Billy Jones, Rickey Ray Jones and Johnnie Ray Jones, all of Dallas, three brothers Donald Ray Lewis (RHS- 1963) of DeSoto, Leon Lewis Jr., and David Lewis both of Ranger, four sisters; Wineford Harden of Dallas, Wanna Lewis of Weatherford and Della Carey and Susy Robinson both of Ranger. Two grandchildren Diamond and Jasper Lewis both of Katy. Numerous nieces and nephews. HUSBAND:JOHNNIE JAMES "RED" JONES, 90, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 27, 2023, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger, TX. He was born Dec. 23, 1932 in Bishop, TX to the late Charles Jones & Elia (Miller) Jones. Red, as many knew him, was a down-to-earth, all-around great guy and friend. He was a people person and made friends wherever he went. Red was an amazing cook and could “Fry barbeque ribs on the grill”! He was known for his homemade chili and spaghetti. Red had a smile and laugh that was contagious to anyone around. When you walked in the room, you were naturally drawn to him. He would give the shirt off his back to help others in need and didn’t like trouble. If someone had a problem, Red had a way of settling it before it ever came through the door. He was a one-of-a- kind, good-hearted, family man and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Those left to cherish his love and memory are his sons: Andy of Ranger, Larry of Austin, Henry and Lawrence of Dallas, and Famous, Ricky and Chris of Ranger; one daughter: JoAnn of Dallas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. He was met at the Pearly gates by his wife: Barbara Nadine Jones; parents: Charles and Elia Jones; sons: Adrian, Gerald, Johnnie Ray, Iris, Billy, Harold; brother: Charles; sisters: L.E and Frankie Mae. MOTHER: DELLA LEE LEWIS, 83, of Ranger, died June 4, 2004 after a lengthy illness. She was a 68 year resident of Ranger. She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Lewis in December of 1961. While it is known that Della Lewis attended schools in Ranger, her class year is not known. Della is survived by her 8 children, Barbara Lewis Jones (RHS-1958) of Ranger, Donald Ray Lewis (RHS- 1963) of Modesto, CA; Wineford J. Harden of Dallas, Wanna Lewis, Della Lewis Carey (RHS-1970), Leon Lewis, Jr. (RHS-1973), Susy Robinson and David Lewis, all of Ranger; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of special relatives and friends.
