Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1965

Kay Gilbert New VALORIE KAY GILBERT NEW, 65, passed away May 12, 2012 in Abilene, TX, with interment in Elmwood Memorial Park. Kay was born on March 21, 1947 in Memphis, TX, the daughter of Onis Marion Gilbert and Viola Beatrice Barton Gilbert. She attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1965 at Ranger, TX. She worked several years as an LVN for Dr. Michelle Johnson & at the Abilene State School before working 14 years as a cake decorator at the Albertson's Bakery. Kay has been a resident of Abilene for the past 36 years where she was a faithful member of the Church of God. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and maintaining a beautiful yard. Survivors at the time of her death include her husband of 36 years, Jim New of Abilene; her children, Valerie Bowers and husband Gerald of Abilene, Beverly Whitehead and husband Buck of Shreveport, Louisiana and Jimmy Lee New Jr. of Tye; step-children, Michelle Schwab, Sandy Garcia, and Shane Jacob Chairs; four sisters, Starlene Gilbert Hill (Joe), Connie Gilbert Snyder (RHS- 1967, Fred), Deborah Gilbert Reed (RHS-1972, Pat), & Shannon Gilbert Sampley (RHS-1983, James); two brothers, Marion Gilbert (Tootsie) and Ronald Gilbert (RHS-1971, Rhonda); 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her parents, and brothers, Charlie Gilbert (RHS- 1962), Donald Gilbert (RHS-1971) and Joe Gilbert (RHS-1969) preceded her in death.
