REX HARVEY THACKERSON, 62, Colorado City, TX
passed away on April 12, 2021.
Born in Gorman, TX on Jan. 27, 1959 to Roy H.
Thackerson & Barbara Benton. Rex graduated from
Ranger High School in 1977 at Ranger, TX and
continued his higher education at Ranger Jr.
College and Grayson County Community College.
He enjoyed a 30+ year career in the Telecom-
munications industry. He was currently employed
with TXDOT. He was active in the community by
serving on the City Council and the Ambulance
Board.
Rex married Mary Alice Upshaw in 1978. Rex &
Mary had many adventures in their 42 years of
marriage. His pride and joy was in his son and
daughter, their spouses & his seven grandchildren.
Rex was an outdoorsmen who enjoyed hunting and
fishing. He was best known for his storytelling
and "Rex-isms". He always had "one more" story.
He was also a skilled musician, often accompanying
his father Roy H. Thackerson, even performing at
the Grand Ole Opry.
Rex lived out the gospel by loving his neighbors.
His words of encouragement will be cherished by
all that he spoke to.
Rex is survived by Mary, his son Matt Thackerson
and wife Mandy of Lovington, NM, his daughter Jami
Nell and husband Brett of Rowena, by grandchildren
Reese, Rylan, Emmalee, Roxie, Sara Nell, Marylee
and Kaylee. Also surviving is his dad, Roy H.
Thackerson, of Ranger, brother Jeff Thackerson
(RHS-1985) of Eastland, & sister Christy Thackerson
(RHS-1983) of Eastland, and many aunts, uncles,
nieces and nephews.
Rex was preceded in death by his mother Barbara
Benton, his brother Albert Thackerson (RHS-1979),
and stepmother Barbara Ford Thackerson (RHS-1963).
