Ranger Exes Memorial - The Faculty RJC

Lydia Victoria Harrison LYDIA VICTORIA HARRISON MAY was a school teacher and the daughter of Mary Katherine Blackstock and John Harrison. The Harrisons had come to Eastland County, TX from Coryell County about 1900. Victoria was born Aug. 7, 1886, & died in Ranger, TX in Nov. of 1967. She married Clarence May in 1911. The Mays had three children: Annie Katherine, who died at the age of 8 in 1921; Clarence May, Jr. (RHS-1937), & Doris Mary May Hay (RHS-1939). Victoria May was a faculty member at Ranger High School for several years and also was on the Ranger Jr. College staff a number of years. HUSBAND: CLARENCE E. MAY, a Ranger, TX pioneer & business leader was the son of Dr. Thaddeus William May & Annie A. Brown of Desdemona. He attended school in Desdemona where his father was the only area doctor for a period of time and he became a licensed pharmacist in 1906, moving to Ranger in 1908. He worked in the drug store of Dr. C.E. Terrell. He later owned the store for a few years but sold it during the oil boom in 1917 and started handling oil leases. Along with A.W. Bowers & E.W. Hodges, they formed the Guaranty State Bank and built the largest building in Ranger. He later owned and operated an insurance agency and at the time of his death in 1949, he was Secretary/Treasurer of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association (later, Olney Savings). He married Lydia Victoria Harrison in 1911 who was a school teacher. The Mays had three children: Annie Katherine, who died at the age of 8 in 1921; Clarence May, Jr. (RHS-1937), & Doris Mary (RHS-1939).
