HARVEY G. "BILL" BURCH, 83, was born to Harvey & Lulu
Lauderdale Burch on Dec. 31, 1915, in Thurber, TX. He
died July 25, 1999 in San Angelo with burial in Fairmount
Cemetery. His close friend, R.G. Davis delivered his
eulogy. He was married to Sybil Simpson (RHS-1935)
in Oct. of 1945, in Monahans. Bill attended Ranger
schools & graduated from Ranger High School in 1935
at Ranger, TX, where he played in the band.
He was employed by various oil field related firms prior
to entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the
Pacific Theater as radio chief of intelligence and
reconnaissance platoon . In 1945 he received a medical
discharge and returned to oil field employment as gang
pusher for Skelly Oil Company. After almost 30 years
in Monahans, they moved to Crane in 1974 and then to
San Angelo in 1991. He was a long-time member of United
Methodist Church and a member of Sierra Vista United
Methodist Church of San Angelo since 1991.
Survivors at the time of his death include his wife
Sybil, one son, David L. Burch and wife, Vivian, of
Odessa, several grandchildren and great grandchildren,
and a sister, Jo Gray (RHS-1928) of El Paso and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by four sisters, Zela Burch Alderson,
whose husband was Barney Alderson, Mabel Burch Anderson,
Bessie Burch Anderson (RHS-1922), & Olena Burch Howard
(RHS-1927).
