Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1940

J.B. Ames LT. J.B. AMES, JR., 19, died in a Army Air Corps plane crash in South Texas on Aug. 9, 1943. He had lied about his age to enlist early in the war effort that had begun in Europe. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX. He was born on Aug. 29, 1923 in Ranger, the son of James Becton Ames & Frona Carr Ames. At the time of his death he was assigned to Barksdale Air Field in Bossier City, LA, where as a pilot, he was involved in the training of young recruits. He was survived by his wife, the former Deane Stevens of Utah; his mother Frona Ames; his two sisters, Doris (Mrs. Phelton) Herrington (RHS-1937) and Betty Sue Ames (RHS-1947); his grandmother Mrs. R.S. Carr, and a nephew, Mike Herrington (RHS-1960), all of Ranger. Most likely his class would have been the RHS Class of 1940.
