MELBA CREAGER DAVES, 70, of Sweetwater, TX died
on Feb. 7, 2001, with burial in Garden of Memories
in Sweetwater.
Mrs. Daves was born Feb. 21, 1931 in Ranger, TX
& attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1948.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in
Sweetwater where she was a member of the church
choir. She also was a member of the Bridge Club.
She worked and was a homemaker.
Survivors at the time of her death include: her
husband, Drennon Daves (RHS-Faculty) of Sweetwater;
one daughter, Marsha Otterstedt and husband, Jeff,
of Granville, OH; and, two grandsons, Tyler and
Kyle Otterstedt of Granville, OH. Her sister is
Lanita Creager Williamson (RHS-1950) & her brother
is W.F. "Bill"Creager (RHS-1958) of Chestertown,
MD. Her mother, Othel Creager, lives in Kaufman,
TX.
MOTHER: OTHEL CLEARMAN CREAGER, 100 & widow
of the late banker W.F. Creager, was born on
Oct. 16, 1907 in Eastland Co. TX, and passed
away Dec. 28, 2007 in Kaufman, TX, with interment
in the family plot at Simpson Cemetery in Gorman,
TX.
Othel graduated from Gorman High School and
worked as a secretary prior to her marriage in
1930. She was preceded in death by her husband,
W.F. Creager and daughter, Melba Creager Daves
(RHS-1948).
At the time of her death, she was survived by
daughter, Lanita Creager Williamson (RHS-1950)
of Dallas and son, William F. Creager (RHS-1958)
of Chestertown, MD; grandchildren: Amy Wilcox,
Allice Bonner, Carol Schnurrenderger, Marsha
Otterstedt, and William Ward Creager; a sister,
Wardine Moore, of Tyler and five great-grand-
children also survived her.
A luncheon party was celebrated in honor of her
100th birthday with her loving family at her
home in October. Actively involved in the Methodist
Churches in Ranger and Kaufman, Mrs. Creager was
an avid gardener, regular at the bridge table,
and she loved crosswords and cryptograms. On
Wednesday, the 26th, she solved the Jackpot
Puzzle on Wheel of Fortune before retiring and
going to sleep. The Creagers were longtime
Ranger residents and their former home is now
a Ranger Bed & Breakfast, called Creager House.
